In March 2026, the laboratory was renamed from Multimedia Computing Systems Laboratory (MCSLab) to Intelligent Multimedia Computing Laboratory (IMCLab). Led by Prof. Eun-Seok Ryu, IMCLab consists of two teams: video standard team and video enabling team. The laboratory conducts research on international standards developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG), with a focus on virtual reality (VR) and related streaming applications.

Research Highlights at IMCLab
(1) Volumetric Video Capture & Streaming with Mobile Robots
We develop volumetric video technologies using mobile robotic platforms, enabling dynamic camera placement for more complete and consistent 3D scene acquisition. This supports real-time streaming and adaptive viewpoint rendering for immersive telepresence and next-generation media experiences.
(2) Dynamic 4D Gaussian Splatting (4DGS)
We focus on advanced 4DGS techniques for dynamic scene reconstruction and real-time rendering. Our research targets compact, time-varying representations and efficient compression for scalable, low-latency immersive media streaming.
(3) MPEG Gaussian Splat Coding (GSC) Standardization
We actively contribute to the MPEG GSC standard, defining efficient codecs for 3DGS-based content. Our efforts span algorithm design and participation in international standardization to ensure global interoperability of neural 3D video.

At IMCLab, we are also exploring intelligent video compression using deep learning to revolutionize multimedia systems. We aim to lead this emerging field by enhancing coding efficiency, visual quality, and adaptability across real-world applications.
